From the founder

ShelfMate is a stupidly simple POS-adjacent inventory tracker built for independent bookshops. It syncs with Square and Shopify, handles consignment, and prints the receipt-style shelf tags shop owners love.

312 paying shops, 96% on annual plans, mostly US and UK. MRR is $11.4k and very sticky — annual churn is under 4%. I built this in 2022 after working at a bookshop in Portland.

I'm selling because I want to focus on a new project in climate. ShelfMate could easily double with someone who actually wants to attend bookseller trade shows.

Growth opportunities

  • Add audiobook + ebook resale tracking
  • Bundle with payments processing (rev share)
  • Expand to record stores and game shops — same shape of problem

Risks & considerations

  • Slow-growth niche
  • Square API dependency
  • Owner-operator vibe — buyer needs patience
